Calling all the members of the Concerned Divers for the Philippines, specially the founding members. It’s time to resurrect this non-stock, non-profit organization that advocates environmental awareness among its members and friends.
The CDP was founded by Robert Arivara, Dave Santos, Eric Raymundo, Angelo Olondriz and Gutsy Tuason way back 1993. The organization had participated in several giant clam seeding projects, underwater clean-ups as well as exposé on various environmental concerns.

I’m interested in joining this noble organization.
Count me in too. This is every diver’s concern otherwise one day we would end up diving in an aquarium instead of enjoying the true beauty of the seas. Lets leave something that our future generations can enjoy!
Ako din sali
I’m a member!

incidentally, I saw some blue spotted rays at the fish section of Robinson’s Pioneer Supermarket a few weeks ago. Are they an endangered species? (i honestly don’t know) I saw three of them in a pile next to the groupers. But I didn’t have my phone with me and could not take a photo.
Can they sell those?
The blue-spotted stingrays are pretty common in the Indo Pacific region but at the rate they’re getting “fished” they would eventually be endangered since there’s still no law (international & local) protecting the Manta’s and other types of rays
According to Virgil, in Talaga, Mabini were he lives, it is not uncommon for the fisherfolks to have mantas as a by-catch when they use nets as a mode of fishing in that area. No wonder manta’s are rarely seen in Anilao divesites.

Michael AW is a phony conservationalist. He is nothing but a COLD-BLOODED CON-MAN. The DOT SHOULD NOT sponsor Micahel in the Philippines in the Philippines. The DOT has spent well over 5 MILLION PESOS sponsoring Michael Aw since 2007. The DOT should instead spend that money more wisely. That is TAX-PAYERS money spent on a useless individual that is Michael Aw.
In January 2008, Michael Aw contracted a local events group in the Philippines to organize a WYLAND event at the proposed venue in SM Mall of Asia. WYLAND, a well-renowned muralist was to paint the facade of the SMEX Bldg. in Mall of Asia on June 2008. The local events group was promised to earn a commission from all the sponsors they were able to successfully solicit in partnership with SM Mall Of Asia. After soliciting over P9 million worth of sponsors by April 2008. Michael Aw cancels the project, saying that it’s all Wyland’s fault. The events group in the Philippines invested over P800,000.00 of their own funds since they facilitated and funded the planning, logistics, mobilization, marketing and PR for the WYLAND event.
When the events group asked Michael Aw to reimburse them of their investment and expenses, MICHAEL AW simply said “NO”… I DONT CARE!
This, coming from a “so-called” environmentalist, he ruined the lives of these event’s group people. He LIED to them. The WYLAND project Michael Aw promised them was apparently an exploratory project he was planning to do in 2009 “WYLAND’s giant marine sculpture”. He needed to get information if the sponsors in Manila would buy into his WYLAND project, and see how much money he can make and pocket. He used the events group to furnish him with the feasibility report so he could embark on the WYLAND project in 2009 by himself and earn cash.
MICHAEL AW claims that he is selfless, and that all proceeds go to his marine foundation called “OCEAN N ENVIRONMENT (ONE)”. But again, he is only after his own personal gain.
To make things worse, CYNTHIA CARRION OF DOT was witness to this injustice from day 1, but did nothing to save the local events group. She opted to support a CON-MAN foreigner rather than to do what is “JUST and FAIR” in helping the philippine-owned small events group get their reimbursements.
MICHEAL AW and USEC CARRION…YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES! You are too busy basking in the glory of the limelight, stepping on the small private and professional people who only want to make a decent living! SHAME ON YOU!
DO NOT SUPPORT MICHAEL AW OF (ONE) & CELEBRATE THE SEA. He cheated a local events company in the Philiippines and robbing nearly P800,000.00 of their personal wealth when they invested in a “BOGUS” deal authored by Michal AW.
To the DOT, don’t waste taspayers money supporting Michael AW , spend the money where it counts, spend it in local Philippine NGO’s. You’ve wasted millions of pesos on Michael AW already. And you were witness to the injustice done to us, the lies and deceit. WE HAVE PROOF of all our claims.
DO NOT SUPPORT CELEBRATE THE SEA! The organizer Michael AW is nothing more than a CON MAN!
